When I was in college, my brother and I had pet rats. They were domesticated brown rats, and they were very friendly. Our favorite rat was named Reepicheep, a name chosen from our mutual love for the Chronicles of Narnia. We loved our pet rats, but our Grandma refused to set foot in our house. She told us that when she was a little girl, rats used to creep around her house at night. She never got over that disgusting experience. Wild rats are a lot different than domesticated rats.
