Get Rid of Smoke Smell

Natasha’s ex-grandmother, a former nurse and career smoker, owns a trailer that smells terrible. I guess that’s the only thing I can think of when I think of a smokey smelling home. There is my grandfather’s old cadillac. That smelled like smoke too. I guess I can’t tell you the smell of smoke really bothers me as much as it bothers other people. Maybe I like the smell because it reminds me of my grandfather. Maybe not. I guess I find it warm and comforting. Is it because I was a heavy smoker in the past? Maybe. But if you’re looking for how to get rid of smoke smell and odor, then you’ve come to the right place.

I think the author of this bit should walk a mile in his/her aunts shoes before judging so harshly. Are non’smokers so self rightious that they above reproach in their lives? I would never say I don’t want to see someone because they smell bad. I mean are people really going to tell me that smoke smells worse then BO? When you become part of a minority group you see how shallow people really are. In your persuit to persecute the smoker you are treating people, yes even your loved ones like shit. Is this how you want to be treated for your flaws? There is a reason why some people can’t quit. Have some love and compassion for those that aren’t as great at controling their weaknesses as yourselves.
    Have a nice day

    Dear Mari,
I think you mistake me for someone who didn’t smoke for 6 years of his life, and didn’t have a grandpa whose Cadillac smelled like smoke, which he does find comforting. I do enjoy the smell of cigarette smoke still. But I also happen to know that when a house is smoked in for 15+ years, it smells bad, really bad. It’s even worse when you’re an ex-smoker, and youwalk into a house that’s been smoked in for so long, because you start to wonder if your smelled like that when you were still smoking and if people didn’t really want to be there because of the stench.

As for the moralizing in this article, I think you’re way off base by saying I’m looking down on smokers. I was a smoker. I don’t feel ashamed, but I do feel relieved and I feel pity for the people who can’t quit. I’m sorry for them, because if they only knew the horror of what’s to come (both my grandmother and grandfather died very slow and painful deaths from lung cancer after smoking their whole lives), they wouldn’t have a problem putting that cigarette down. At the same time, I don’t consider these people a minority or a demographic that deserves rights. They aren’t like other minorities. They weren’t born with cigarettes in their mouths. For a smoker, there is always a choice.

Making choices in a dynamic society sometimes have negative consequences. Continuing to smoke in a more health conscious society has the negative consequence of turning yourself into an outcast–an object or a statistic rather than a person.

So, Mari, I’m sorry if I offended you.

    Sincerely,

    Jonathan Hatch

Any suggestions for cleaning the smoke residue from a ceiling? It’s a popcorn type of ceiling where my renter sat under and apparently chain smoked.

And Marni, I have BO and take offense to your comment.

  4. Jonathan Says:

    Hey Dana,

Those popcorn ceilings are tough, but I’d try vinegar, maybe? I’m not sure if the acetic acid may react with whatever chemical the ceiling is made of. You could also try an enzymatic cleaner. They’re usually used on organic stuff like urine and vomit, but it might do the trick. If none of those things work, and the ceiling is in fact white, you could try a little hydrogen peroxide (aka. chlorine free bleach). Test some of those out on small patches, and if one of them seems to work, get back to us and tell us what you did, k?

I am the manager or a fairly large apartment complex. I have renters coming going every month. Sometimes the apartments have such a strong food or smoke odor that even new paint or carpet doesn’t get rid of it. I recently found a new product that I swear by. It’s called Room Shocker and you can find it on a website called BiocideSystems.com.
They also have a product that takes away the smell out of cars.
The product is easy to use and works extremely well for any severe odor. You just let it sit overnight and it not only takes the smell out but it also completely decontaminates the room.
