So many of us have piles of old or unwanted books at home, whether they are used college textbooks we’ll never need again, rare copies of hardbacks or just piles of unwanted paperback books. Looking at this junk and wondering how to get rid of it, we are often tempted to just throw all the books in the trash and be rid of them. But there are better ways to get rid of books than to clog up the landfills with them. You can sell books online to get rid of them. Or you can sell books to a used bookstore and get cash immediately. Consider re-gifting books to friends, either as is, or maybe with a personalized note on the cover. Package it up with a bottle of wine, and you’ve made the perfect recovery gift for any friend looking to get rid of stress. If none of your friends like to read, consider donating the books to a non-profit organization that collects and redistributes books, or possibly a local organization looking to hold a book drive to raise profits. Many places in your area may be interested in taking your unwanted books, including local schools, churches, daycares, rehabilitation centers and shelters for women and children. But if none of those options work for you, get creative. Books provide us with pages of beautiful scripting, illustrations, unique covers and many raw materials for creative projects at home, such as scrapbooking, collage or papermaking. Read my article on how to get rid of books before you consider throwing anything so valuable away.
