Get Rid of Cholesterol

March 18th, 2008

null

I love food. All kinds of food. Before I found out I have borderline high cholesterol, I rarely met a hot dog, cheese, ice cream, or pot roast I didn’t like. One of my favorite snacks as a kid was a slice of bread with butter on it. Yum. Butter. But now–thanks a lot, Dad, for the bad genes–I know my body makes more than enough cholesterol on its own, and any I add via my diet just wants to party on my arterial walls. Bad stuff. So for the past few years, I’ve been learning a lot about how to get rid of cholesterol. Now I’m passing my wisdom on to you. My latest article, on getting rid of cholesterol, covers everything from everyday lifestyle and dietary changes you can make to lower your cholesterol, to drugs you can ask your doctor about, to natural compounds that support your body’s efforts to keep cholesterol levels acceptable. Take a look.

Get Rid of Dizziness

March 16th, 2008

Dizziness is one of the most common medical complaints, a symptom of many illnesses and experiences, and treated in a myriad of ways. Because of this, getting rid of dizziness, especially chronic and severe dizziness, can be complicated. There are a number of steps you can take to get rid of dizziness as it hits, and even build up your balance and focal strength to reduce feelings of dizziness in the future. If you’re experiencing severe and painful symptoms, however, the best thing you can do for your dizziness is see a doctor and get a better understanding of your dizziness and its possible causes. For more information, check out the new page on getting rid of dizziness.

Get Rid of Poison Ivy

March 14th, 2008

I consider myself verrrry lucky to have never had a poison ivy rash. This may be because I’m woefully inadequate at identifying plants while I tromp around in the great Northwoods and manage to avoid the poison ivy by sheer dumb luck, or . . . I may just not be tromping around the woods enough. Poison ivy doesn’t just grow in the woods, though, and for those of you with poison ivy in your yards or gardens, it’s probably important that you get rid of the plants before you, your children, your friends, or your pets (wait, are animals allergic to poison ivy?) develop a rash. Getting rid of poison ivy requires a bit of work (you have to kill all parts of plant and remove all of the roots) and a lot of protection (cover your skin, your face, your mouth, etc.) but something tells me you’ll be glad you did it once all the poison ivy is gone for good.

Get Rid of Weeds

March 14th, 2008

As spring approaches and the snow melts and the little green things start to come out, those lucky people with yards and and gardens can start thinking about things like seeds and planting and watering and . . . getting rid of weeds. Whether or not you want to get rid of weeds depends a lot on your aesthetic landscaping perspective (like dandelions! I think they’re beautiful!), but weeds take a lot of forms and sometimes it’s just necessary to eliminate invasive grasses or poisonous plants to protect the rest of your yard or garden. For more information, check out the new page all about getting rid of weeds.

Get Rid of Rust

March 8th, 2008

As spring approaches we who live in winter climates are looking forward to the melting snow, blooming trees, singing birds, and . . . the onslaught of rust on our cars and equipment. Rust is a fact of life wherever moisture contacts steel and iron metals, and so it’s important to know how to get rid of rust before it completely destroys whatever it touches. My latest page, Get Rid of Rust, offers tips on rust removal, rust prevention, and natural rust repair — everything you’ll need to get rid of the rust around your house and home.

Get Rid of Asthma

February 28th, 2008

null

About three years ago, I was diagnosed with asthma. Before that, I lived with it for most of my life without having any idea why exercise was a struggle for breath and lying in bed at night was sometimes more scary than restful. When I was finally diagnosed, I decided 23 years was more than enough of that crap, and ever since I’ve worked pretty hard to keep my asthma symptoms in check. My doctor and I adjust my treatment frequently to make sure I’m on the most effective medications and dosages, and I’m always interested in more ways to get rid of asthma symptoms. Unfortunately, getting rid of asthma altogether isn’t a possibility because it’s a chronic condition. But if it’s controlled properly, it’s unnoticeable most of the time. My latest article goes over the treatments your doctor may prescribe to minimize your asthma symptoms, and suggests things you can do on your own to prevent flare-ups.

Get Rid of Beetles

February 27th, 2008

Someone in the forums inspired me to write an article about getting rid of beetles. The question was about Asian beetles. Now, there are a couple of beetles that come up when searching for Asian beetles, but I had no idea how many species of beetles there were. Almost 25% of all known life forms on earth are of the order Coleoptera, which are beetles. Can you believe that? Now, can you believe that I wrote an article about how to get rid of all 350,000 of those species? Well, you’re right. I didn’t. I wrote an article that barely does the topic justice. It’s not a bad article, but it’s limited in its scope–and it has to be. I will say this, though: I covered most of the major beetle pests that plague our houses, gardens, and communities.

This is just the beginning of what I hope will be a six-part series covering the topic of how to get rid of beetles. I have already written an article about lady beetles, and I believe Japanese Beetles are next.
