You don't want the ants in your new place and believe me THEY don't want to go either. They are the workers and need to get back to thier nest. Any ants you take with you will be killed off by the ants around your new place (if any) as strangers and invaders. Your idea is excellent, but leave the van at your old place so any ants inadvertantly trapped may get back to thier own nest.

I'm in the process of moving right now as well as in the middle of a war with some sugar ants in our apartment. I've tried a lot of different solutions but none seem to be 100% effective. I've gone through periods of seemingly no ants to all hell breaking loose. Right now we are moving and obviously don't want to take these guys with us. Other than preventitive measures we'll obviously have to take once in the new place I was wondering if anyone had any possible helpful tips.
One thing I was thinking about was, since we are moving in December and we live in southern ontario it gets pretty cold in the winter. So i was thinking that if we packed everything in the moving van and rather than moving it all in and out in one day. Leaving it in the van overnight to more or less freeze (or as close to it as you can get being in a moving van in the winter). Would this be an effective way to kill them?. Any feedback/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Steam clean the bedroom. This sounds crazy, but it will work. Bedbugs don't like the temperature of the steam. It will kill them and their eggs. You will need to treat all areas of the mattress and other places where the bedbugs are hiding. Make sure to get into the seams of the mattress. Any deep recesses where bedbugs will hide must be treated carefully. This is an integrated approach to pest control. Remove all pictures from the walls and treat the frames and any bedbugs seen on the walls. Concentrate on the liner at the bottom of the box spring. Rip it off and dispose of it in a plastic bag. Bedbugs will cluster together in a hiding spot. They will spend as much time as they can closest to the host...mainly whoever is occupying that bed~ YOU! They can live up to a year without having a meal of blood. See my website greatinfotips.com for more bedbug info.

HAH! I would check the materas seams for hot and lonely bed bugs as well. Don't vacuum those areas first. Check them and then vacuum. And getagrip is right to tell you to check fixtures and such near your bed. Bed bugs will hide just about anywhere. I've seen pictures of blood spots on ceilings before.

Now, if you'll excuse me I'm going to go barf. I f-ing hate bed bugs.

If you live in a multi unit building the neighbors may have a problem and you are just now beginning to see it. Two bugs can be a problem even if they're not in love they may be lonely and then "BAM" ....YOU have a problem..Strip the bedding and check your materas around the seams..just to be safe vacuum those areas, also check wall plates
( light switches and elec outlets..they screw off) if you have any signs you should treat with a pesticide.

Dumping the matress is not a solution to the bedbugs. We have to call for PCO and get things clear. We ahave to contact experts who do this like www.bedbugbreau.com who can give us the idea of how to get rid of the bugs without making much expense in renovation and throwing away furniture and matress.

Bed bugs cannot survive any area with temperature of below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. However, any attempt to kill bed bugs by chilling a room has a low chance of success, as the cold temperature should be maintained for at least two weeks. Pest-control experts normally use a wide array of aerosols, low-odor sprays or dusts.

travelguide offers good advice. This is true: keeping as much fabric from contacting the floor and walls will prevent the possible migration of bed bugs from adjacent areas to your bed.

you can prevent bed bugs from crawling onto a bed, pull the bed frame away from the wall, tuck sheets and blankets so they won't contact the floor, and place the frame legs into dishes or cups of mineral oil.

Bedbugs have become a serious problem in the last few years. The pest control industry is making a "killing" pun intended on this new market. As for your questions well..depends on which "expert" you listen to.
#1 I have heard "years" and one year.
#2 Not that I have seen or read.
#3 Wash all bedding. Inspect the box spring and matteras with a flashlight .Vaccuum all seams and underneath. Check wall outlets and light switches and look for any dead insects .There are several insecticides on the market so do your research.
#4 You need to contact your doctor on that one.
As you can see this is a very complex situation that cannot be answered quickly I strongly urge you to contact a pest company and your doctor since each situation is different.

What are you doing with Drugstore beetles in your car? It initally got it's name from eating herbs in drugstores...Ummm...got any herbs in the car? Don't answer that..Anyhoo..it also eats leather and paper. This is what I would do..Instead of tearing up your car each weekend.Or paying the bodyshop a million bucks. You need 3 things.
1 babysitter....to watch your toddler
2 magnifying glass
3 six pack of beer
Now...go sit in the car (no keys in the ignition) and just watch one of those guys as long as you have to to find out where he goes..

I have owned this car for a few years, and before that it was owned by my mother and father in law. We live in Miami Beach, Florida, so it's a warm climate. We live in a high rise so the car sits in a garage which is covered, but in some spots open. The bugs have developed recently. I have never heard of mice or birds in this car from anyone. The bugs/beetles look similar to cigarette or carpet beetles, with the following minor differences:
- Tiny round, brown bugs (could be brownish red but appear brown) color is solid and shiny/lusterous shell
- Have tiny wings
- Legs not really visible
- Mostly crawl slowly however appear to have the ability to fly short distances
- Easy to kill by smooshing
- Similar look to carpet beetle but around rounder and do not have spots
- Eggs must have about a 2 1/2 to 3 week gestation period as they keep coming back in that time period after we spray

I am unable to take a picture that would be meaningful because they are so small. I plan on figuring out how to take the back seats out over the weekend to see if there is anything to be seen under there.

You don't tell us if you just bought this car. If you did I'll bet this car didn't just come off the showroom floor. My ESP tells me this car sat in a barn, field, or open garage for a long time. While it was sitting there mice or birds or some sort of nesting thing made a nest. The nest then became infested with some beetle(of which there are many species) and now they belong to you. You may not need to do any treatment if we can find the nest. Can you write back with more info or maybe a picture?

I have small brown, possibly weevils, that have infested my car. I don't believe that they bite. I have sprayed an indoor product, vacuumed extensively, and even set off a "bomb", with the trunk cavity open to the cabin. However, they always seem to return. I am afraid that they are either in the dash or the foam of the cloth upholstered seats. I really do not want to get rid of a car with thousands of dollars, over some bugs. As one final problem I have a 2.5 year old. So any treatment will have to be safe for toddlers a few weeks after applied.

Well, latinstarlite, let's get a couple of questions answered before anyone else tries to answer this:

1. Where do you live, or where is your new home?
2. Do you have screens on your windows and doors, or are you doors and windows open often?

If I were going to take a wild guess, I would say fungus gnats are your problem. Here's a link to what I think might be an answer to your problem:

Hey everyone. My family recently moved into our first home.....you'd think we'd all be happy right? Wrong!! About 2 weeks or so after moving in we noticed little bugs flying around. We thought they were fruit flies and figured they would go away after tossing some potatoes and fruit that were starting to go bad. Wrong again! I kill at least 5 to 10 of these things every day. Some are teeny tiny little bugs and others are a bit bigger. The bigger ones must be on suicide missions or something cause they love to fly right up in your face. I've also noticed that I'm being bitten. Of course I'm the only one getting bitten. But this is a huge problem for me as my skin heals slow and I tend to scab and scar from the tiniest little scratch.

I don't have any house plants, I have put them all on my patio. I can't imagine where they are coming from but I need some sort of idea of where they could be coming from and how I can get rid of them. Thanks for your help.
