Any "Carpenter Bee" would be insulted that you called her a "tiny" bee. They are husky and tough. I think you are having spring exploring bees which could be any kind looking for a nice spot to create a home. Most are attracted to light.Have you seen any more since you first posted?

I believe I might have a problem in my basement with Carpenter Bees...I noticed a tiny bee at the top of my basement stairs the other day...and today as I was leaving my laundry room in the basement I saw a larger bee on the floor...they were both kind of sluggish so I could just step on them and kill them...they just seemed to be on the floor all of a sudden...are they "overwintering" from last year possibly?...where should I look for their nest or where they may be coming from...and what can I use to kill them myself...or should I have an exterminator come out?...Thanks

I tried a trick on my own to see if I could deter the carpenter bees that are destroying my carport. I mixed a little dish soap, water and ammonia in my sprayer and sprayed each opening in the wood. Then I waited for the the bees to land and sprayed them. They hit the ground and died. After about 30 minutes the bees were gone from the area and I noticed several more on the ground. This was just an experiment on my part and may not keep them from coming back, but they are gone for now.Just thought I would join this forum and let those with Carpenter bee problems know about this as a cheap and safe way to rid them for a while.
