What we don't know is if bats have created a nest in an attic area. If so the guano must be removed and the area sealed or they will continue to return.

Getagrip is right. Keeping outdoors lights away from your house will draw insects and their potential predators (bats) away from your windows.

Good idea or how about this..MOVE your lights AWAY from the house..then the insects AND bats will be out in the yard. Also try different bulbs..that don't attract insects. And yes bats are harmless and beautiful creatures.

Most bats do not carry disease normally. It is possible that a nest can be infected with something, especially the new disease that is killing bats by the thousands. Bats are generally harmless, at least the ones found in the northeast. I find it odd that I occasionally find dead bats attached to the inside walls of my garage.

Around here (WV), bats normally fly the most around dusk, for an hour or two. If you reduce your lighting, you will attract less bugs, and thus less bats. Instead of using electric lighting, try candles or torches, which tend to not attract bugs at much, meaning less bats.

I have a bat (bats) that fly into our covered deck area every night at dusk to catch bugs (I'm assuming) and my cats have taken to "hunting" them They managed to kill one the other night and I don't want them getting the bats or disease from them. How can I discourage the bats from coming in at night. I don't have the flood lights on and when I do put them on, it doesn't seem to make any difference to them. HELP!!
