Before considering surgery are your man boobs caused by actual breast tissue or fat. If they are cause by excess fat then a focused diet and exercises should do the trick. For more info see my web site Man Boobs Solutions.

If you are unsure as to what is causing your man boobs read the free report on my site if that doesn't help talk to your doctor.

I'm with Starbolt on this one. As I've detailed in the article about how to get rid of man boobs, the standard benchpress supplemented by incline and decline presses (perhaps even some chest flys performed properly with free weights) should build muscle, while cutting down responsibly on your caloric intake should help take away a lot of the volume. After all, it's the volume of fat cells that have accumulated in your chest that's giving you the appearance of having man boobs, or moobs.

I've even taken up swimming in the hopes of burning even more calories. Apparently 2 hours of freestyle swimming (the use of any stroke you are comfortable with) will burn roughly 1700 calories. That's a lot of burned calories with almost zero impact on your body, which is why swimming is often used to help overweight people with joint pain get a fat burning cardio workout.

In theory, an extra 1000 calories burned per day (both by exercising and restricting your diet) should help you lose roughly 2 pounds per week. I'm aiming for 30 minutes per day of swimming coupled with 10-15 minutes of upper body and lower body weights, alternating upper and lower each day. I've been told by trainers that 5 minutes of cardio warmup on a bike followed by 10-15 minutes of weight training and then 30 minutes of swimming/cardio is probably the best way to both build and tone muscle as well as lose extra fat.

I'm not sure how long you've been working on the problem, but I can pass along what worked for me. I, too had a decent pair of moobs for many years. Middle school through my 20th birthday. In fact, since I quit going to the gym 2 weeks ago, my cleavage is trying to make a comeback. The cure for me was to lift weights. I've never been a big "weight lifter dude", but doing lots of benchpress, decline barbell presses, dumbell flys, and incline dumbell presses, along with dropping my body fat, made the man boobs disappear. Generally, I'd do 3 sets of 8 reps of each lift, with enough weight to fail on the last rep. It took about a year of lifting about an hour a day, four days or so a week (only working the chest once a week or so), but there was no surgery or scarring, and for the first time in my life I could wear a t-shirt and not look like I was sporting a-cups.

Good luck...

You know, Confused, those are two excellent questions. I don't personally know anyone who has gone through the breast reduction surgery you're speaking of. I would imagine that any tissue taken from your chest will not be muscle, so you don't have to worry about never working out again.

With most surgeries, there is an accumulation of scar tissue. You simply can't avoid that, so what you will have to do is give the scars some time to heal before working out. How long will that take? That's a question for your surgeon. How long will the scars last? That's another question for your surgeon.

So, we come at last to the fact that I haven't answered either of your questions. I decided to do some research and I found a great article about man boobs in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/14/fashion/14reduction.html

...and I will refer you to the article we wrote about how to get rid of scars.

Hi,i am 22 years old,and as far as i can remember,i have had man boobs.. I think it is a very minor case of gynecomastia due to heredity..As i have seen it visible with my grandad and my dad as well...Apart frm my chest,I am in a very good shape, have been working out regularly in the gym, swimm regularly and run aswell...although i have noticed that my arms, shoulders and other parts of my body have shown improvement in shape, its not the case with my chest..so i am seriously considering surgery..but am blank in that field..so i have couple of questions..will there be any scarrs left??after surgery will i be able to go to the gym regularly and have proper pecks muscle??any help/comments/suggestion will be really appreciated..
