Rats? Really? Well, I'm not sure how far rats have traveled in the past, but I can imagine that two miles is a decent distance. Either way, rats aren't known for their survival skills in the wild so much as their survival skills in urban settings. My bet is that they'll be hawk or owl lunches in no time.

Well, I have just trapped my 3rd rat in the barn (there will be more). My haveaheart trap doesn't make it easy to collect them for a convenient rat group trip, I have been taking one at a time 2 miles up the mountain & let them loose in the DBNF. Is this far enough? I just don't want them coming back & hope they will be hawk lunches very soon!
