Jonathan said to let him know how bay leaves work, and, well, they DON'T. Bleach worked for about 10 minutes. Are these things reproducing by the nanosecond? I almost regret killing all the enormous wolf spiders that would come out while I was doing dishes, sit on their haunches and size me up, doing mathematical computations about how long it would take to wrap me up and eat me. When the spiders were here, the ants were NOT. On the bright side, the ants let me know I got all the spiders. {shudder!} The neighbors must think I'm crazy, constantly flipping my fingers out the door (I doubt they can see these little uninvited guests I'm flinging out the door without a telescope). Sometimes one of my kids will drop a microscopic-sized crumb, and next thing you know, there's a pile of what looks like dancing dirt (it's quite the optical illusion). Guess I'll try that Terro stuff. Thanks, Jonathan!

For the last 2 months I've been battling Sugar ants in my pantry. I keep my kitchen clean, I try not to leave anything out on the floor or countertops or in the sink. Which with two small kids is extremely hard. But the ants aren't anywhere but in the pantry. I've bought so many clips to protect all of our food and I have to empty out the pantry and wipe down the shelves every 2 weeks. We've had the exterminator come to spray 3 times in the last 2 months. I don't know what to do - they're driving me INSANE! I'm going to try some Bay Leaves (mentioned in this site) but I was wondering if anyone else knows of anything else.

I recently moved into a house that seems to have sugar ants living in the walls! I haven't tried any of the suggested remedies, although I have been keeping the kitchen clean, not leaving food out, etc. I was wondering about the Bay Leaf suggestion. I actually have a bay leaf tree in my backyard. For the remedy, do the bay leaves need to be dried or can they be fresh? Anyone out there tried this remedy yet?

I have small brown ants in my kitchen. It appears they are not after food, because there isn't any out, and the counters are clean. Instead, they are eating the grout around my sink and have made holes in the grout on the kitchen floor to gain access to the kitchen. Does anyone know what kind of ant this is and what I can do to get rid on them. I live in Northern California. Thanks.

I'm in the process of moving right now as well as in the middle of a war with some sugar ants in our apartment. I've tried a lot of different solutions but none seem to be 100% effective. I've gone through periods of seemingly no ants to all hell breaking loose. Right now we are moving and obviously don't want to take these guys with us. Other than preventitive measures we'll obviously have to take once in the new place I was wondering if anyone had any possible helpful tips.
One thing I was thinking about was, since we are moving in December and we live in southern ontario it gets pretty cold in the winter. So i was thinking that if we packed everything in the moving van and rather than moving it all in and out in one day. Leaving it in the van overnight to more or less freeze (or as close to it as you can get being in a moving van in the winter). Would this be an effective way to kill them?. Any feedback/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had tried all the things you can get in the stores to get rid of these ants. I found this website and used the Borax and powered sugar, I put it in a ziplock sandwich bag. (of course I left it open) I placed the bag on the counter at night the next day there was so many all over the place but I decided not to squish them and see what would happen. The next day ants were dead in the dishwasher and none on the counter.
Its been three days and maybe I see one or two ants. They were in the dishwasher and always all over the counter. They are gone!!
I do rinse my dishes, and try not to leave food out. These ants are real invaders they find a single crumb. But not any more, HaHa!!
Try it definitely works.
