Have you noticed if they are coming out from the ceiling fan or just going around the light.? If they are coming "out" all you need is a shop vac ( faster and more sanitary than paper strips)just suck those guys up,and remove the base plate of the light and seal it with caulk.

Thanks getagrip... but these guys are not green or shiney Iguess I could have been more clear about the description of them ...lol..anyway they are a little smaller than the bottle fly I usually see out side and they are more brownish black ..I did alittle more searching online and I think they are Cluster flies the fact that they showed up in the winter was my first clue and then I found some pictures

anyone have any other suggestions and how can I GET RID OF THEM !!!!!!!
thanks

My first hunch is greenbottle fly. I also have a feeling there's a dead mouse or something in your ceiling that they are breeding in. The first instars of these guys are non feeding.

Ok, I have a fly problem!!! These are the wierdest flies I have ever seen not weird in apperance but in the way that they act.We have dogs and children and admittedly at times the kitchen can get to be a mess. Thats why these flies are weird they dont seem intersted in the mess, not from the dogs ,not from the kids or any other mess they are only interested in the ceiling fans and ceiling lights(even when the lights are off) they circle and fly around the pull chains and the globes almost in a swarm like fasion I have tried fly tape and this will slow them down but I can fill a tape in a day and they are back full force the next, they are alittle smaller than the green shiney house fly that I usualy see around and they have a small more flat abdomin.and I have noticed little black or brown spots on the walls where they somtimes land.WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THESE FLIES!!!HELPPPPP!!!

It should although you are competing with the sun during the day outdoors. The big problem with flys is that they..well..fly. Try to get them to fly AWAY from your house. If you are putting attractants close to your home you are bringing them to you. Try putting your attractants at the far edge of your property. Also notice that flys hover low during the day and most bug zappers are high.

Does anyone know if the traditional bug zapper works on flies as well as mosquitoes? Since the weather has warmed up, our back patio is literally swarming with flies. We live just a mile or so from a dairy farm, so I know where they have originated from, but that doesn't make them any less annoying. They show up late morning when the weather starts to heat up and 'hide' in the shade. By dusk, they have all but disappeared, just to revist the following day. I have tried the bags of water trick and several other of the natural remedies to no avail. We have dogs and kids so I'm a little concerned about using any harsh chemicals.

Don't forget Cluster Flies that overwinter in the wall..They will get inside your "weep holes" in the brick and wait until it warms up. If they are larger fat black flys with red eyes.Or the other senario is drain flys. Little brownish flys.

I have found that if you have lots of flies within your house, and it is pretty much sealed with screens, or completely closed and air conditioned, you most likely have a dead animal under your house. If it's a huge amount of flies, it could be a larger animal such as a raccoon or groundhog. A small amount generally means a dead mouse or rat.

Chestnut trees also attract an extraordinary amount of flies, as do other certain types of vegetation. Fertilizing a garden with feces will yield some flies, but generally not for very long, and they tend to stay around the garden and not migrate far from it.

I need some help with flies!!! The neighbor used chicken manure to fertilize and now we are suffering. The flies are everywhere. Is there anything that we can do to kill or deter them?

Are they big fat black flies, or tiny little brown flies? Are they green and shiny on the outside? We need some more details about the flies that you're dealing with and then maybe we can narrow things down a bit. Until then, if everything is sealed up (ie. window screens, doors, porch areas), I would try pouring bleach or hydrogen peroxide down each and every drain in your house, including the basement.

I had flies for the first time last fall. There were alot of them and when the weather got cold they went away. Now that the weather is nice they are back and driving me crazy. I put 4 fly stips up and this morning still more flies. I am meticulous with my house and have no pets or food or drink out. I dont understand. I have lived here for 20 years and this is new. HELP
