Hi, If anyone is looking to get rid of A yeast infection. Whether it's a male yeast infection, a vaginal yeast infection, a skin yeast infection, a severe yeast infection of any kind I suggest you read this. I had a recurring vaginal yeast infection. I saw my doctor and after 2 creams and a round of antibiotics I still had it come back. I searched the internet I found an alternative cure for this chronic yeast infection. If anyone is interested the site helped me a lot. http://www.tackle-that-yeast-infection.com

I have a family cabin in northern Michigan. It was built with industrial recycled plywood. The plywood, as best we can tell, was saturated in an oil substance. The cabin is like a fly home - attracting thousands of flies that somehow find their way into the inside of the cabin.

We are trying to determine what is attracting the flies. Is this common in northern Michigan or could it have something to do with the plywood? We set insect bombs off all the time but they keep coming back by the thousands.

Looking for any help or advice.

I first found some carpet beetle larvae over three years ago in a bag of clothes that had been sitting for a year or so waiting to be sorted for the charity shop...got rid of them and thought that was that...worst of the problem was over with.
Over the years I've seen the odd larvae - then none for about a year. I thought I'd got rid of them. I've seen quite a few adults on the window sills (but I didn't know they were connected - I thought they'd come in from outside).
Then about six months ago I found another larvae in a drawer with some stored clothes...and decided I'd better have a through check...
I found about 6 larvae in total, mostly in stored clothes but also in a food cupboard apparently eating a stray piece of dry cat food. And I found pupal cases in three sets of drawers...and that they had chewed holes in (clean) wool coats, cotton items (seem to prefer black), wool mix socks etc etc.
I've washed and ironed all the clothes, and all but the bare minimum are now stored in sealed plastic bags. I have steamed my carpets and mattresses etc.
I read online that they didn't like lavender or cedar. So I bought these oils and wiped the inside of my drawers etc with them. And then realised a lavender pouch hadn't stopped them eating my cashmere mix coat.
(caution - live insect experimentation coming up...)
So when I found four larvae I decided to see if they really didn't like lavender or cedar oil. Cedar oil had no effect - they would crawl right over it. Lavender oil they would crawl right up to it (couldn't seem to 'smell' it) but didn't like crawling over it - until it was completely dry -and then it might as well not been there.
I also read that borax and/or salt might kill them. So I put borax in a sealed plastic box with them and then after a day so added some salt too - and almost three months later (with no water and a few strands of hair for food) only one of them seems to have recently died, while one is so happy it has shred its skin once...(one I tumble dried on the 'freshen up' cycle to confirm that this would be hot enough to kill at least the larvae - and it did...)
What has really shocked me is that they have survived for so long ...I had forgotten they were there and really thought that regular hoovering under beds etc and restricted food (clothes etc in plastic) would have killed them - but a few hairs and no water kept three of them alive for so long!
I have just bought some Boric acid (not borax) and some diatomaceaous earth.
Have given the remaining two larvae a little moisture and some more hair - to make sure they are healthy when I try these out on them...I'll keep you posted on the result.

Hello! I launder donations at my home for a volunteer organization to be brought back when they are clean. With the bedbugs on the rise, I want to protect myself from getting them, despite having lots of used clothing coming through my home. Would sealing them in bags for a set amount of time kill them? How about freezing them? How long can they live without a host? If I kept the bags of donations in the garage, would the bugs travel far from the bag if they managed to get out in the garage? Do they live off cats, too? Sorry so many questions!

Hey all, we had mice in our home too... and it really sucked!

I experimented with traps and poisons, but found them to be too dangerous (I have pets and little children) -- and also in humane. NOt to mention that I read the mice carry multiple diseases.

I discovered a little company out of North Dakota, call Earth Kind (www.earth-kind.com) that has an all natural mouse repellent -- called the mouse pouch. YOu simply put these pouches in the areas that they populate (these pouches emit an odor that mice HATE)..

we did this 4 months ago, and havent seen a mouse since...

I've found direct spraying of box-elder bugs with household-strength orange cleaner is effective in controlling them. This is (as all other treatments are) a contact agent only - i.e., it only kills the bugs that are sprayed directly. Once the soap solution dries, it is no longer effective. I use household-strength orange cleaner sprayed with a garden-sprayer attached to the garden hose. I spray the soap solution directly on the bugs crawling outside walls of the house, sidewalks, ground at the base of the tree, the tree trunk and lower branches, and their nests. To attract large numbers of bugs to a small area, I made a small, dense pile of box-elder branches, twigs, leaves and seeds near the base of the tree and left it for several weeks. This attracts thousands of nesting box-elder bugs, then I spray this heavily infested nest and throw away the treated debris. I sprayed several times a week during the summer to bring a fairly heavy infestation under control. I was careful to use as little spray as possible on the ground and protected nearby flowering plants, shrubs, bird-feeders, etc., from the spray.

This method is most effect when used with other methods of controlling the box-elder bugs (controlling nesting areas, keeping the tree base-area free of fallen seeds, leaves & branches, etc..).

Jonathan Hatch posted a careful description of his efforts, successful and unsuccessful, to get rid of tongue canker sores. Among his recommendations was to use a toothpaste without SLS, and he specified Rembrandt. Please note that Rembrandt contains peroxide -- often helpful, though not always. BUT it also does contain SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), the fifth from last of its listed ingredients. Medical research has supported his claim that SLS encourages tongue cankers. Listerine 1-minute mouth swishes worked for me: half a capful of Listerine rolled around in my mouth for 1 minute, then spit out. The very first treatment was alleviating; after five within twenty-four hours, I was almost completely cured

Get Rid of Thingers,
Is there a way to block all of the annoying ads that show up on the side bars and banners of so many websites these days (including yours). They are against my religion.
I know they have pop up blockers. Why can't we block google ads? Is it because "the google" wants to control everything, and makes enormous amounts of money by poisoning our minds with targeted ads? We even allow them to read what we are writing so they can target the ads further. There is something very wrong with that. Don't you agree?

A reader asked this question:

I read in one of your web publications "how to get rid of yellow jackets" as
i am currently experiencing a yellow jacket infestation in my basement. I
can not find the nest as the activity is much reduced, being that the
weather has turned colder. (live in a home built in 1948 in South
Minneapolis). I find them either dead or almost dying in one corner when i
get home from work. or they smack me in the back of the head when i getting
ready for work in the morning. (its better than coffee for a good wake-up -
near heart attack caliber!) I assume that the nest is close to that
corner of the basement, but i can't find any of them in the walls (where i
can access the walls in that corner). The basement is partially finished.
Am i going to have to rip out the new shower wall? or as stated in your how
to get rid of yellow jackets page, it says that if you leave the nest alone
that it will essentially die over the winter. Is this true for nest within
outside walls? or are we going to be dealing with the damn things all
winter?
Any assistance you may or may not be able to provide will likely be better
than the exterminator, who's helpfulness is beyond compare said - "its
raining - i can't find them" and then left. (please let it be known that
it was raining when we called them)...

sincerely
MZ

Any thoughts, getagrip/gotagrip?

I have a wasps nest in my loft. I cannot see or get to it because the space is a loft conversion with no loft cover. I know there is a nest because they crawl through the back of my down lighters mounted in the ceiling and get caught in between the glass defuser and cannot fly crawl back leaving my light fittings filled up with dead wasps. If I was to take the light fitting out of the ceiling to investigate I would only have a hole of around 75mm to see through. Has anybody got any ideas on how to exterminate them? Thanks

We've had problems with moles for years. Tried the mole chasers, poison peanuts, spreading the lawn with foul smelling products and moth balls to deter them, everything, to no avail. Our lawn service suggested the following: use mousetraps to kill moles. It works very simply: moles are rodents, so treat them as such. Where you find a molehill or tunnel, dig out an opening. Using a small piece of pepperoni or hard salami as bait, place a mousetrap at the opening. Cover the hole and trap with an inverted shoe box to keep area darkened.
I have used this method and trapped 12 moles in the last 3 weeks. It is the least expensive and most effective method I have found, and you KNOW the moles are eliminated.
We are also going to spray the lawn to kill grubs, to eliminate the food source and attraction for moles in the future.

Hello,

I say possible, I mean they could be something else, but as I've found them mainly in books, and paper and anything papery related, then I'm going to presume that is what they are. Tiny little whitish/brown things. Relatively fast for their size I guess. I first found them inside one of my binders. I thought I would sit and organise my printed out knitting patterns, and hole punch them and place them into my binder in the right sections, and when I opened into the middle of the binder I saw probably about 20 tiny brown dots, at first I thought they were specks of dust or something, but when I poked at one it moved. I do have a habit of buying second hand books. And my teddy making book that was stored next to the binder also had some in, as did my second hand knitting book, and boxes of photos, cardboard boxes etc, hence why I'm thinking they are book lice.
I live in an old town house, so my bedroom is essentially the attic, though there is a small square door in my ceiling that I assume leads to a small attic (I've lived here 5 years and never been up).

I've binned the binder, books, went through everything in my room (almost) and have either frozen anything I wanted to keep for 24hrs, or have binned it. I have a mountain of bin bags sat at the back door waiting to be taken away at the weekend.

I've sprayed Raid for cockroaches and ants, as it was the only bug spray I could find that had pyrethum in it. So far I've sprayed a can and half in my room. I'm going to work my way down the stairs, as my daughter has a tonne of books, I checked a handful and only found one bug, so I'm being hopeful that her room isn't as bad.

It's been a very distressing time, as I've had to throw memories, and gifts as well as art work, but it has meant I've had a huge clear out, just wish it was under better circumstances.

I'm also washing any laundry that was in the laundry basket that was near items that had bugs on.

So far apart from the one in a book in my daughters room, I have only seen them in mine, ofc they are tiny so I may have missed them but now I find myself staring at everything looking for movement or something that stands out as wrong. It's driving me crazy!

I've checked my books on a shelf that is about 6ft up and out of the 6 I checked none seem to be infected. And my dvd's that are underneath but in a cupboard on the floor also seem to be bug free.

I can only assume I brought them in with an infected book, or picked them up from somewhere after visiting, we recently stayed some place and I took books and paper with me, they could have hitched a lift back, but I have no way of knowing where exactly they came from.

I don't have a bedroom door, but I have sprayed all around the banister and stair case, to hopefully create a raid barrier to stop them going down stairs, though as I've had them this long, if they've wanted to go downstairs, I'm sure they would have. Plus, having to carry infected material down the stairs probably didn't help.

They were mainly at this side of my room, which is where my knitting book and binder where. But it is underneath the window. I did have a giant cardboard box under the window too that my chair came in and couldn't get rid of, a month or so ago I moved it to the other side of the room, and I think that is how they spread over there, but again this is just me guessing.

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to explain what I've found and what I have done so far. I've also vacuumed the majority of my bedroom, I can't quite get under the bed until I have some muscles here to help me at the weekend - king sized bed, no where to move it and I'm a pint sized person.

I know to freeze things I want to keep for 24hrs to kill the possible eggs, I've sprayed raid around my room, so much that 2 days later the residual is giving me a tender throat! I think I may be going over the top with the raid!

I can only do so much freezing and washing at a time. But is there anything else I can do to help with this?

Oh, my environment, well, to me my room appears dry and damp free, though there is some wall paper peeling under a corner, but I looked there and saw nothing, and sprayed too just in case. In my room behind some partition board I have a water tank. In summer my room is absolutely boiling hot so I always try to leave a window open even when it rains but I place a towel on the sill to help soak up any rain water so it doesn't do damage, in the winter it's freezing cold.
I've never had this problem before - or at least, I've never noticed this problem before.

Also, I've placed all infected items in bags outsize, should I spray some more raid around the wall and door frame so they don't try coming back inside. Or should I presume that because they are bagged up with food (books and paper)that they'll be as happy as me at an all you can eat chinese buffet?

Hello,

I just bought a commercial carpet cleaner with steam from daimer.com to clean the carpeting in my house. As much training as I have given to my dog, he still has more accidents on my carpet than I had hoped ... even after 5 years!

I haven't received the machine yet, but hope it works for carpet stain removal Daimler has a new carpet cleaning solution that's green and supposed to clean very well. I bought a couple of gallons of it. I really need to get a total solution that works for me.

Has anyone out there bought a carpet cleaner to clean pet stains from their carpets? Is it doing the job you expected?

Did you buy one with heat? I was told carpet steam cleaners are more effective than carpet cleaners without heat. The heated ones also help to kill bacteria from what I understand.

Did I make a good decision to buy a machine with heat versus no heat?

Thanks.

sick of black widows on "Black Widow Infestation Update"

Hi I reposted the top few paragraphs from another post on what I did to deal with Black widows, so the reader will have insite on what is happening... The update is at the bottom....

                         Problem

OK, I have the same problem with Black Widows.. I have been fighting them for a year now... I have a new house in the middle of nowhere... I'm pretty sure I am the epicenter for black widows... I don't need an expert to tell me about black widows I could write a book... WHY? cause I have a front row seat to about 1000 of them...

What I know...... Based on the last year and about 200 black widows later.. They like the SE side of the house probably cause it gets warm earlier... If I went out right now I would look in the exterior windows , down spouts and roof corners all of which have a crack or something to hide behind... Any day I can usually find 6 of them... Than GOD they are not in my house... you can rest easy though.. they have no desire to leave the corner they are in and really mind their own business.. I had one on me the other day and it scurried across my arm like I was a tree... didn't bite me just tried to get away.. I of course then called it a name and smashed it...We have learned not to pick up anything without scaning it first.. they hang out with a male which is usually out in front. You can bet if you see a male there is a big black one nearby...

                          Solution

Unless someone comes up with better this is what I suggest... To kill the ones you have now, I use either hornet spray or oven cleaner ...yes oven cleaner... since nothing but battery acid kills them on contact you need to stun them and then crush them.. Raid will kill on contact but takes a long time... Oven cleaner is awesome cause it coats then in a light foam that makes it hard for them to move... Hornet spray are for the ones you can't reach.. When they are stunned they will wiggle around the web so you can crush them with a long stick or something... If you see just a male, sqirt some Raid into the hiding place and it will come out all pissed off. But still stunned .. If you see a web but no spider you can squirt randomly and eventually you can draw them out...I didn't know this earlier this year cause I was still learning, but what I am doing to stop the infestation is killing the babies... After I go out and kill my six for the day, I take Raid roach spray( make sure it says including black widows... I soak every spot around wher I found the six... Then I soak anyplace that might look like a good place for them... Use up the whole can... I do this every other day,.. WOW you say... Yes a bit of a hassle BUTTTTT... that will kill the eggs and prevent them from going back to that spot you sprayed for about a day or so...You will see fewer and fewer.. You may even find some dead ones cause Raid does work... I am now down to 1 to 3 a day not 6 and I have eliminated large areas around my house where they used to frequent... I'm going to continue till they are all gone.... If someone has a better idea than that I would love to hear it...

                         Update....

It has been only a week and I have cut down the number of Black Widow spottings from 6 a day ( yes 6 a day) to about 6 a week... Black Flag is the pestiside I am using and it works...It kills on contact if sprayed generously... And I think will prevent other Widows from coming to that same area.. For a short time at least... got to keep up... PLUS when spaying the entire area and around, I am killing future juveniles...Also I took a trip around my property and looked into man holes etc. from my utilities entering the property and sprinkler stuff... I found a HUGE Black Widow with about 4 huge eggs... Found about 3 or 4 around the property and since then they have not returned to those spots...

I think I found out the trick... I also have been leaving the dead widows around the srea where killed, since Black Flag kills with out crushing... That way other black widows will be hesitant to build a web there...They see the result of what building a web on my property is...JK... But I do believe they don't particularly like to be around other female widows..

Try this and reply... It did work for me

Here is our dilemma with Yellow Jackets. See picture here http://jenny-jennywhocaniturnto.blogspot.com/2009/09/six-word-saturday.html

We keep sealing up openings that we find because they keep finding or making more. I would like to try the Sevin method but now we have all these holes sealed up with caulking. You can hear some pretty major clicking from outside. We don't have any YJ's inside yet and I really don't want to discover them working their way in.

Should I work the caulking out of one of the original entrances and puff the Sevin into that? What do you recommend?

Everything I've read about these pests on the Internet says that with the cold weather, they will die, end of problem. We are getting them in the house and it is mid November here in Ontario and we have had more than one killer frost as well as snow. We realized in the Fall that one source of their entry was the bathroom ceiling fan vent - a metal screen was placed over that on the roof and we sprayed and removed the nest but we are still getting them in our bedroom. We have narrowed the search for an entry point to a wall between the old part of our house and a new addition with the entry being a spot where a piece of siding is missing. Since they are protected from the cold somewhat by their location, will they still die out or will they be with us in the house all winter. The ones emerging into the house at a rate of 3 or 4 a day, are dozy and slow, but a couple of weeks ago before the coldest weather hit, I was stung by one when I encountered in unbeknownst to me until the sting. Any info. you can give us about our problem will be most appreciated. Thanks, Alice

For over a year now I've had a problem with tiny white insects biting. I moved to an apartment in October of 2007 and the day after, the two cats started getting bitten by something I couldn't see. The smaller cat started to lose her hair in patches. The vet said insect bite but cou;d find nothing. I started to get bitten a few days after moving in. Just a few bites, one every so often. In spring I put plants out onto the balcony and these rice-grain-shaped, pale-yellow/off-white bugs started killing everything. Summer planting was a wash. When I took the plants out, the bugs bit me.

Once the plants were gone from the balcony, they moved indoors. At first it was the area near the balcony door that I got bitten in the most. By Winter 2008 they had infested the couch further in, and I couldn't sit on it without being bitten constantly. They seemed to mostly bite around the rib cage. I was spraying constantly with a 0.25% permethrins spray, but got no relief. I lost use of the livingroom. To stand in one place or sit on a chair (wooden) for 10 minutes was to get bitten. The superintendent of the building got the pest control company in, who looked at a sample of a bug on black paper, and said that without looking at it under a microscope, he'd say that it was a spider mite. So they sprayed for spider mites and told me not to wash the floor s for 6 weeks.

After two weeks the biting was intolerable and was happening in the dining room. The pest control company said that that was very strange because the "Dragnet" that they sprayed was supposed to be at full effect at two weeks. It would run out at 6 weeks. At 5 weeks I started bleaching the floors, which would provide a few minutes of rest. I had no time to eat, or do much else but clean. I lost weight and became panicky. Again I had the pest control man come. he suggested another spray with Dragnet. I was convinced these were not spider mites.

Finally, the bugs invaded my bedrrom. I got no sleep. The floors were constantly bleached. Although the mattress was still in plastic and I was sleeping naked in a dust-mite-proof mattress cover, 10 minutes after lying down, the bites would start. Sudden, sharp little bites, especially in the warm areas of my body. I was getting bitten all around my face and in my hair I could feel things crawling.

I left a message for the landlord describing the situation, and fled to my fathers. They followed me there. I left most of my clothes behind and went to the Y' They came with me. I went to a rooming house with nothing but my makeup and the clothes on my back. They came with me. I showered thoroughly, and my mother drove me to a new apartment that I had just gotten. They came with me. I shaved my head and got much relief from the biting there. But I was being bitten all over, especially my torso.

Now I bleach the floors and coutners once daily, shower twice daily. I have no soft furnishings, only a couple of emergency mylar blanketsd to sleep between, and some few clothes that I boil each day for an hour. A fry pan and a hone. I get bitten less, but winter will come and I have to get rid of these so i can get a coat and boots.

Look like a body louse from what I've seen under a 'scope, but bite cats, bite inthe shower, infest balconies. Atypical body louse? I was never homeless until I encountered these in the last apartment. So maybe an import?

Please, sonmeone, anyone...I'm losing the will to live. U. Of Guelph doesn't do DNA analysis for the general public. I have some good samples that I know are bugs. Can anyone help me? I'm spreading these things around but only my mother gets small bites. Estrogen? No-one else seems to get bitten so far.

Help!

As a landlord of 35 yrs I've had LOTS of odors to deal with, and every one has been successfully treated very easily. I've used 3 different ones: Scent-Killer, Scent-Shield, and Scent-Away.(My guess is they're all identical--they all work) BTW, be sure to get the unscented variety unless you like "fresh earth" smell or whatever might have been added to attract game animals. It can be found at Wal-Mart before deer hunting season which starts soon--might be on shelves now. Can get it at hunting and archery shops, too. It was about $100 per gallon when first on market, but now can be had for around $12 per quart, which will last a normal family about a lifetime!

Its mechanism is stated as "prevents formation of gas". No gas, no odor. I have found this stuff is the ANSWER to EVERY odor problem I've had the past 15 yrs or so. Surface odors are zero problem. Cat urine soaked thru carpet, padding and into wood below requires you to soak each area w/ the liquid---it looks just like water. The stuff works instantly, but may have to be repeated if stink is in wood or other hard-to=treat areas. Obviously, if all 3 are soaked it will take more treatment, but it will work. No need to "seal" floors any more before carpeting, or at least I haven't had to. If urine is widespread in carpet, padding and floor you will probably want to change them anyway, but you can "mop" the floor w/ odor-killer to prevent having to seal it if it's a nice wood.

Horror story: My worst case of "superficial" odor was a fridge that was PACKED, both freezer and fridge, and left w/out elec for weeks! Incredible, rotting mess.
A half-dozen mist-sprays into each box and smells were gone. Days later, still no smells on the food removed, and none in the fridge, and didn't have to re-spray the fridge later. I still find this hard to believe myself, but it's true.

It's great for litter boxes, trash cans, garbage disposals, etc. I haven't yet found an odor it won't eliminate... landlords don't have a choice! We HAVE to get rid of stinks. ....and we do.
