Does anyone know anything about Bark Beetles?
Yes..there are many kinds. The most common only eat under the surface of "bark" hence the name bark beetle. They are found in trees, wood homes and wooden ships. Mostly confused with wood destroyng beetles like old house borer or powder post beetles. These guys do little or no damage.
I guess what I'm getting towards is the damage done by elm beetles and pine beetles who tend to carry fungal diseases that will kill a tree faster than the insect itself. I'm almost done with my research and I'll posting that shortly. I'm working with a grad student from the U of M who is working on natural bark beetle deterrents as we speak.

A natural deterrant would have to stop the female from laying her eggs. I've often considered some sort of systemic pesticide to kill of eggs internally in a tree. The cost of course would be prohibitive on a large scale..unless your friend has some new idea..You know that liquid dish soap works as well as most pesticides?
So what do think of Nicky and her "bee"?
