I get canker sores about once every two weeks, often caused by little nicks in my mouth that get infected.
I have found that an excellent cleaning agent, to help keep bacteria from infecting it too bad, is GlyOxide. This cleaning agent can be used for just one canker sore, or many [as a mouthwash]. For one sore, you can put 2-3 drops on it, and hold your mouth open for at least two minutes. For multiple sores, you can put 10-12 drops on the tounge, mix with your saliva and swish around your mouth, especially on the sores.

I get frequent canker sores and had three the other day. My Mother-in-law said she fights hers with Benzoyl Peroxide--just swish it in your mouth (don't swallow) for a minute or so after brushing. I did it at night and the next morning the 2 small sores were gone and the large one was much smaller. I continued the next day (morning and night) and the last one was gone. She also said that doing this daily helps tartar buildup on your teeth (and after doing it for a year, her dentist was amazed and how little tartar she had).

Peroxide does the trick, it's never failed me yet, it even worked on my four year old when she had a canker sore recently - I just put it on a q-tip and applied it a few times through out the day and never heard a peep from her about it after the first day. You are usually low on B12, so that doesn't hurt along with maybe some Chamomile.

You shouldn't be getting canker sores that regularly. I would tell your dentist about it.

Sometimes I get one, not very often, I use something called orajel. Put it on a Q-tip, make sure the canker sore doesn't have spit on it, and then apply the Orajel. The Orajel will make it stings for about 5 seconds, then it numbs it. Apply it at least 3-5 times a day depending on how bad it is.

Mouth wash helps dry it up. Putting salt on it gets rid of it too, although it's very painful.

Most of the remedies you have mentioned are based on getting rid of bacteria. GlyOxide and peroxide will kill bacteria. But bacteria are part of every healthy mouth.

There is another approach, to develop a balanced flora of bacteria in your mouth. I do that by eating yogurt. I eat one large spoonful of Stoneyfield Farms plain lowfat yogurt every day. Their yogurt contains six different microbes plus inulin to help you absorb calcium. It is the most complete yogurt I know of. It is good for everything from the lips to the other end of the food tube: digestion, regularity, etc. I used to have a lot of trouble with canker sores. Have not had one in years. It also helps prevent upper respiratory infections. I have not had a cold all winter.
