As reported, I'd appreciate affirmation that painted, not stained wood, will discourage bees. How was this tested? What about pigmented stains? Why urethane paints. Live in log house and deal with these bees every year even though I plug every ** hole I can find and they return.

I have also found that WD-40 is an great tool to get rid of the bees. Just squirt it in the holes using the nozzle. It doesn't take long for them to come crawling out. Some will get stuck half way out the hole and die. Others will fall out and die. Either way it deters others from inhabiting the hole. I have a ranch rail fence. The males will gaurd the holes. You can swat them out of the air with a bad mitton racket or other source instead of trying to spray them with insect spray. As for the females, you can stick your ear to the wood and listen for activity. Then just squirt the WD in the hole. Over the course of about three days I have eliminated my bee (approx 30-35) problem using this method. Gave me something to do in the evenings.

Information regarding paint and its effectiveness as Carpenter Bee control has been pulled from numerous sources, some of which may include information discussed on university extension offices websites. Why does this work? I don't know. Does urethane work? Possibly. It's difficult to find the answers to these questions because there isn't a lot of research done specifically on what chemicals will stop Carpenter Bees. It's a little unrealistic to expect people to do this for you. Why not give it a shot yourself and tell us what you come up with? I'd be interested to hear the results of your own study, yes?

Mo be golden, just labor intense. The idea is to create a membrane or barrier for the female when she goes to lay more eggs. She will want to get back to the same area she came from and drill a hole and lay up to eight eggs.Now listen up...each log house is different, so each problem is slightly different. Different wood, different condition.
The basic idea is to not allow the eggs to hatch and keep any females out of the wood.Posted 1 year ago #
