Hi, i think we have carpet beetles in our flat. Not many mind you an it seems to be most of the larvae that we see. I hoover/vacum 2 or 3 times a day, but they seem to be in the join on our fireplace, between the back and the hearth! How am i supposed to get rid of the little mites there without taking apart my fireplace and fire surround??
We have recently got a dog and i try to keep the dog hair in the vacum( white hair on blue carpet)! They are horrible looking things and even though i know my house is clean they make you feel dirty!!
anyone have any suggestions???

Tink !! You're from Scotland..I have a cousin in Fife. I'm in the US but I understand how buildings are where you are. The flat ( we call it an apartment) is on what floor?
Somewhere there may be a dead animal, bird nest etc. in the common fireplace.This or something similar is where the little buggers are breeding. Get back to us asap.Posted 1 year ago # -
Okay, you got me scared.
1. had mice, used poison cuz I just can't deal with traps
2. the picture of the black beetle looks like an ordinary pincher beetle or stink beetle that are all around haven't seen any in the house, but you never know what lurks in the shadows. What would make them unique= size, speedy movement?
3. are they found in cold climates?
4. in reading reference from Nils, I do have clothes from Jr High (yes, my name is sewn in them) but they are not in storage and don't seem to have any holes.
5. get most of my clothes from the dump, will the beetle die in the cold? I wash everything in as hot of water as the fabric can take, but not always right away, they may be in the hamper for a few days. Do they travel on clothing?I am really getting creeped out. Per the blog, look for droppings? Are these beetles that big?
