How do you get a cat to quit scratching on posts? My cat is an outside cat and loves to scratch on my new wood porch posts. I'm so frustrated and have had them covered with black plastic for a month now. This is not attractive for a new porch, let me tell you.

Hey gin. I thought i was the only one with "cat" problems. At least yours don't eat plastic bags and then throw them back up. Special huh?
There should be something out there in the pet stores that has a nasty smell that will turn them away from scratching. There should be anyways....
When mine were little they loved to scratch on the edge of my sofa's. I went and bought a water bottle and everytime they even looked like they were going to scratch i'd give them a little squirt squirt. Now is all i have to do is show them the water bottle and they take off running. Now i'm sure when i'm not looking they more than likely scratch twice as hard for me squirting them, but a least they don't do it when i'm watching. LOL!

Ladies..please..either you trim the cats claws yourself or let them do it in thier own way. How many times a month do you go to the nail salon? Why don't you take your cat?
