I need some help in getting rid of dog urine smells in my carpert. I also have a problem with my mother's room and her bathroom as she has a bladder problem. What can I use to get rid of this smells. I have tried commerical products and none of them seem to work, I have a Hot steam carpet cleaner, some one please help me. I don't have people come over because of the smell. I also have some stains.
Isopropyl Alcohol poured onto carpet will remove alot of stains and odors. You do have to pour alot, then dab--don't rub or use pressure. You may have to reapply later, but alcohol evaporates and (hopefully) takes away all of the odor and stain. There is also a product out called Pets and Kids which can be added to your steam cleaner. This worked great when my neighboors sled team accidentally got into my home and had a spot marking contest.
First check for urine in molding, wood sink base or other absorbing material before you do anything drastic. Hopefully this will be your problem.
You may have urine under the tub, sink, toilet, or other hard to reach areas. You didn't say what kind of flooring is in the bathroom. If it is tile, wood, vinyl, and carpet, it may all have to come out and have a new subfloor put in or use a sealer such as Kiltz on the floor. Then put in a single piece of flooring (not tile, ect) and caulk around all the fixtures as they are replaced.

So we're dealing with dog and human urine? Luckily for you, Maggie is on the ball. Pets and Kids is a great product. It's called an enzymatic cleaner, enzymes specifically designed to break up and dissolve the proteins and organic matter found in animal waste. I would suggest using much of that to do your carpets. In the mean time, you can also find pet stain and odor cleaners to do the dirty work on the stains and spots you find. Hint: most pet stain/odor cleaners that are "organic" or "natural" are also enzymatic cleaners. Seventh Generation and Ecover both have really good solutions available in most grocery/big box stores.

Take a strong liquid detergent and scrub it into the carpet really really hard.
Leave it in for about 5-10 minutes and then rinse it out as best as you can. Once it's dried spray frebreeze on it.
The reason most products don't work is because they're masking the odor
You need to try a product called Room Shocker. It will definitely get the odor out and disinfect carpet by actually destroying the bacterial mold fungus that causes the odor. The whole room for that matter. It's really easy to use inexpensive. You can find a website called BiocideSystems.com. They will even refund your money are not satisfied, so you can lose. I highly recommend it worked really well from my problem.
