I had flies for the first time last fall. There were alot of them and when the weather got cold they went away. Now that the weather is nice they are back and driving me crazy. I put 4 fly stips up and this morning still more flies. I am meticulous with my house and have no pets or food or drink out. I dont understand. I have lived here for 20 years and this is new. HELP

Are they big fat black flies, or tiny little brown flies? Are they green and shiny on the outside? We need some more details about the flies that you're dealing with and then maybe we can narrow things down a bit. Until then, if everything is sealed up (ie. window screens, doors, porch areas), I would try pouring bleach or hydrogen peroxide down each and every drain in your house, including the basement.

I have a fly problem. I have done everything that you said. Sealed the windows, doors and that kind of stuff.
I am now trying your spray bottle with a few drops of dish soap. How long does it take for this to work????? These flies are driving me crazy!!!!!

I need some help with flies!!! The neighbor used chicken manure to fertilize and now we are suffering. The flies are everywhere. Is there anything that we can do to kill or deter them?

I have found that if you have lots of flies within your house, and it is pretty much sealed with screens, or completely closed and air conditioned, you most likely have a dead animal under your house. If it's a huge amount of flies, it could be a larger animal such as a raccoon or groundhog. A small amount generally means a dead mouse or rat.

Chestnut trees also attract an extraordinary amount of flies, as do other certain types of vegetation. Fertilizing a garden with feces will yield some flies, but generally not for very long, and they tend to stay around the garden and not migrate far from it.

Don't forget Cluster Flies that overwinter in the wall..They will get inside your "weep holes" in the brick and wait until it warms up. If they are larger fat black flys with red eyes.Or the other senario is drain flys. Little brownish flys.

Does anyone know if the traditional bug zapper works on flies as well as mosquitoes? Since the weather has warmed up, our back patio is literally swarming with flies. We live just a mile or so from a dairy farm, so I know where they have originated from, but that doesn't make them any less annoying. They show up late morning when the weather starts to heat up and 'hide' in the shade. By dusk, they have all but disappeared, just to revist the following day. I have tried the bags of water trick and several other of the natural remedies to no avail. We have dogs and kids so I'm a little concerned about using any harsh chemicals.

It should although you are competing with the sun during the day outdoors. The big problem with flys is that they..well..fly. Try to get them to fly AWAY from your house. If you are putting attractants close to your home you are bringing them to you. Try putting your attractants at the far edge of your property. Also notice that flys hover low during the day and most bug zappers are high.
