are groundhogs dangerous? and what is the best way to get rid of them? I have one living in my yard under a building he comes out and eats the grass in my yard.

Groundhogs are not dangerous, except perhaps for any damage that might be done to your building. Other than that, groundhogs are relatively harmless.
I apologize for hijacking this thread, but I have a nest (two young and two adults) of groundhogs living under my house. They have already chewed through my satellite cables, and my water hose to my refrigerator. I do not have a gun, or I would just shoot them. I don't want to use poisons since I have pets.
Do the high frequency pest repellers work?
thanks,
Lexridge
Hey Lex,
I'm afraid the high intensity sound repellents are a temporary solution to the problem. Usually what happens is the animal in question leaves the premises for a short time before returning once they've either realized there's no danger or they get used to the tone being used.
I would suggest live trapping once the young ones have left the nest. You may want to contact your local extension office or DNR office to see what kind of removal methods are most effective. If you want a suggestion, I would go with a big trap from Havahart.

Thanks samoya for the reply. I've been looking for a trap to borrow, since I saw they can be rather expensive. Here in WV, it should not be hard to find someone that has one.
Are you suggesting the young ones will ultimately leave from under the house on their own, or will they just dig some more (assuming they have already) under my house making their own nest?
thanks,
Lexridge
I'm suggesting they will leave.
Good news. So that only leaves two to trap. Thanks again.
Lex
