Hi-I didn't find any info on this. I have a very small balcony, and baldfaced hornets keep flying into it and directly at the people on it. I think they're looking for a place to nest, and there is a lot of competition for nesting sites. I can't use the balcony and the hornet trap I made didn't work. I try to spray them with hornet spray but they're too fast. A hornet is there hovering or flying around the balcony whenever there is daylight, no exaggeration. There are no active nests there right now. There are many many trees nearby so I have no idea where active nests may be. Pleeeease help!

Anybody look UNDER the balcony? Look for a grayish ball with a hole in the front. Or they may be reacting to thier own reflection in the glass door(during the daylight as you said) or your dark sunglasses.Like most things in nature just don't react with fear or panic..stay calm and they'll leave you alone.What kind of trap did you make?

There's another balcony underneath it but no nest there. They are bumping up against the ceiling and corners and the walls, and trying to crawl into nooks and crannies (I taped all of these up so they can't make a nest IN anything). First I bought a store hornet trap, then I made a vinegar trap. And when I have 2 or more flying at me what do I do? I don't want to get stung! They are way overpopulated here and I wonder if that is why they are so aggressive. I live in an apartment and the landlords say they've had exterminators by already. They hover a foot or two right in front of whoever is on the balcony before dive bombing anyone on the balcony, they are definitely targeting the people. Sorry for the length, this is making me crazy. :(

Yikes..they're acting like carpenter bees! Ask the office when the pest guy is due again..they usually don't go out on balconies unless told to do so and they're usually in a hurry so if you could get a dead one for them to identify it would help.

I looked it up--that's what they are!!!! They were making a nest in a hole!!

Now here's the really fun part..in each hole the female lays about 8 eggs, when they emerge they like to stay close to home and mate and do it all over again! So..let's see 8 times 8 = 64? ( one year) 64 times 8 = uh..something (second year)So..Heather have you called the rental office screaming yet?
