Hello... iam going crazy! The weather is getting cooler and I find that i have a huge amass of flies in one of the bedroom windows... I have tried to vacum them up... but they just keep to be coming out of nowhere! I am really starting to feel like the termnator with the vacum brush! does anyone have any suggestions? thanks!
My first guess is cluster flies. Can you tell us what they look like? If not try looking up Pollenia rudis or cluster fly and see if they have a pic. If that's no help come back and we'll walk you through the ID and solve the problem.
Call an exterminator for a free estimate. They will tell you what kind of flies you have. Cluster flies sounds like the right thing. Also, you need to have the room checked for any dead mice. I know that sounds gross, but flies will germinate from a dead body.
i seem to have swarns of house flies in my loft. they make their way to the beroom and bathroom windows. so i am continualy spraying fly killer in the rooms and also spraying the loft area. i have noticed that when the sun shines on the house roof, there seems to be swarms of fies on the tiles and i suppose they are comming in under the tiles. Appart from completly lining the inside of the roof does anyone have any other suggestions?
Well I think they are flying TO the windows for the light the question is where are they flying FROM. As for the flies on the roof outside I wonder is there an attic where there may be a dead squirrel or mouse?
Up in the upper midwest this is a common happening around this time of year. Starting mid-September the flies go absolutely haywire and start heading indoors in mass droves. It doesn't mean that your house is dirty or necessarily that you have a small dead rodent lying around it could just mean that it's starting to get cold and the darn things are looking for a warm place. If you have a farm specialty store around they usually carry sprays made for dairy farms that will take care of the nasty things in short order, but as far as I'm aware there's nothing out there yet that will repel them.
There are fly containers that work very well. You put water and a foul smelling powder in them. The flys go in and drown. Very effective. You might also try fly strips that hang from the ceiling. The also have ones you put on windows.
