Peppermint tea is recommended here, which works like magic for me after a bad meal, but I don't always have tea-making facilities at hand. I have found that Altoids, because they have peppermint oil in them, do a decent job of settling my stomach. They are also highly portable and no one will think that you're doing anything odd by having one after a meal or at any other time. They aren't as good as tea but they still help quite a bit.
For what it's worth, I took Lexapro for a couple of months once for a reason other than IBS and for the first time in a long time, my stomach and intestines worked like they were supposed to. It had absolutely no other effect on me, though, so I had to stop taking it so that I could try other medications for the reason I was taking it in the first place. No other similar medication has ever had that effect on me and I really wish that I could still take it. Better to be sane, though. . .
