I have a pond in the backyard in East Vanouver, WA and lately I notice we have the visitor of racoon although I believe my pond is too deep for the racoon to reach for my koi fish, I still do not want them around. Any proven method to get rid of them? Please help.
Raccoons can be vicious, especially if rabid, which is fairly common. When my son still lived at home, I would have him do target practice on them, mainly because they always made a mess of my garbage. Now that the raccoons are gone, the opossums are taking up for them. They are worse IMO, and they stink as well. I just killed one yesterday with a shovel because it was too stupid to run when I approached it. Not something I like to do, and again, the stench almost made me vomit.

Have the raccoon move along. If he becomes to much at home he will be harder and harder to get rid of. Make him uncomfortable as possible. A doberman and/or bright light and noise is all you need until he gets the hint.
Raccoons fear big cats. This DOES WORK, had raccoons living in my attic. Go to you local zoo and ask if they give or sell urine from the big cats, when they spray out their pens. If not, the next best thing is to take used kitty litter (as much as you can get from home and friends) and continue to pour it around the areas they stay, as well as the perimiter of your property. Ya, this sounds (and smells) yucky, but the problems from raccoons are much worse.
I found live traps do not work, since raccoons can be very intelligent when it comes to getting in and out of places.
Dogs help to scare them off, but any injury to your dog could bevery painful, vet expensive and even fatal, from all the decaying ??? under a raccoons claws.
I've heard that cat urine will make a lot of different things "move along" . The only down side of that is if a male "large cat" or even a feral male house cat may be attracted or interested. Who needs perfume when nature supplies it free.
Pardon? I really did not understand your reply--not poking fun. Kitty litter should come free (used), but didn't get what you meant by the male 'large cat' or a 'feral male house cat'.

Thanks. In my case it would be "poke with index finger tip" at ya. A feral cat is homeless or wild.
