I have small brown ants in my kitchen. It appears they are not after food, because there isn't any out, and the counters are clean. Instead, they are eating the grout around my sink and have made holes in the grout on the kitchen floor to gain access to the kitchen. Does anyone know what kind of ant this is and what I can do to get rid on them. I live in Northern California. Thanks.
Sounds like pharaoh ants. Do you live in a single family home or an apartment? Don't spray an over the counter pesticide it will only make them spread out into more colonies and make the situation worse. Use baits.

Just be sure the label says Pharaoh ants. If that's what they are they may not take any plain old ant bait. They nest in the wall above ground and in a circle with the queen in the middle. Any disruption seen as danger (such as spraying) and they're moving to another area sometimes forming satellite colonies.
I will give it a try, we already sprayed (before asking for advice) I will let you know what happens. Thanks.
