Little, Smelly, White Chunks

Once in a while I cough up these little white chunks that smell bad. Until recently I thought I had some sort of disease, or really smelly boogers. As it turns out, these little white chunks are called tonsiliths, and they are caused by mucous and other matter that is trapped by your tonsils--a condition known as cryptic tonsils, which can sometimes lead to tonsilitis. Tonsiliths can actually become more frequent if you're suffering from post-nasal drip. I'm not sure there's much you can do about them, but talk to your doctor about this and ask them what they think the best approach is to solving your problem with tonsiliths.

How to Get Rid of Bad Breath (Halitosis)

Natural & Organic Solutions:

Tea Tree Oil cures not only acne and athlete's foot, but it also helps cure halitosis. Want to know more about curing halitosis with tea tree oil?

Salt water will help stop bad breath and halitosis because salt kills bacteria. Remember when the doctor told you to gargle with salt when you had strep throat? Well, Strep is a bacterial infection, and salt does not discriminate when it comes to killing bacteria that cause bad breath or illness.

Mint leaves. Chewing mint leaves throughout the day is a great way to freshen your breath. It might not taste as good as bubble gum, but it's better for your teeth!

Is getting rid of bad breath priority number one for you right now? When you sit down in a theatre, do the people around you cringe and move a couple of seats down? Do you keep asking who passed gas when it's evident that no one did? The chance does exist that it's your mouth, like an easy-bake oven set to a moist 98 degrees, the perfect place for odor causing bacteria to grow. We had a friend in high school--I think everyone has had this friend--that no one wanted to sit next to because his breath was always so bad. Now I know why this was the case and below are some tips to help get rid of bad breath.

Bad Breath can be stopped by brushing your teeth more often. Most dentists will tell you to brush three times a day, once after every meal. Don't forget to floss and brush your tongue. The plaque found on your tongue and between your teeth is a part of the problem.

Bad Breath can be prevented by gargling with mouth wash regularly. Brushing your teeth is fine, but for those hard to reach places where bacteria grow over-night, mouth wash is the way to get to do it. Gargle for at least 30 seconds in the morning, making sure to get as far down your throat as possible. Rinse with water afterwards to make sure all of the junk is flushed out.
Prevent bad breath by changing your diet. Your saliva is naturally acidic, helping to prevent bad breath and protect your teeth, but the bacteria in your mouth can adapt. The acids and fiber found in fruits and vegetables will help uproot and kill much of the bacteria. So go have a fruit salad for lunch instead of those ramen noodles!
Stimulants are a major cause of bad breath. Things like coffee and amphetamines tend to dry out your mouth, allowing plaque and bacteria to thrive. Stay away from alertness medications, some cold medications, and energy drinks.
Smoking is a well known cause of bad breath. Smoking not only leaves the nasty smell of smoke, but it also tends to dry out your mouth, leaving bacteria to flourish. Stop smoking today and you might see a noticeable improvement in your love life.

Bad Breath and Halitosis Medication

There are a lot of washes, sprays, and other cures available on store shelves today. Some of them are good, and some of them are bad. It's best to do your research to find out which product seems right for you. But remember, sprays and washes only cure the problem temporarily by killing off the bacteria or overwhelming the senses with nice smells. Usually the more effective products are dental care systems or systems specifically designed to combat halitosis.
