How to Get Rid of Body Odor
|
Natural & Organic Solutions:
Mineral Deodorants are all the rage now. Made from a salt called potassium alum, these rocks are simply wet with water and then applied to the underarms. They're usually scentless, and fairly inexpensive.
Baking soda is yet another natural solution to the body odor problem. Baking soda has been used to solve odor problems for a very long time, and guess what? It's safe to use under your arms. Just dab some on your finger after you shower and apply thoroughly. |

Americans seem to have an obsession with smells. We spend hundreds of millions of dollars on fragrances and anti-perspirants to prevent or cover up our own smells. Personally, I like the smell of body odor. I find it attractive. But if you're not like me, which is quite possibly the case, here are some suggestions to help you solve the ubiquitous problem of body odor. Preventing Body OdorSome people are more susceptible to body odor (the by-product of bacterial growth) and profuse sweating, a condition called hyperhidrosis. Whether you're one of these unfortunate people or not, there are some simple things you can do to prevent unpleasant body odor:

Daily baths will prevent body odor, obviously. If you do suffer from hyperhidrosis, taking more than one shower a day will help. Moisturizing body washes leave a pleasant smell, but sometimes leave people feeling sticky, especially if they have hard water. |

| Powdering after showers will prevent excessive perspiration. Some people like to pat themselves down with an absorbent like talcum powder. Don't use stuff like baking soda. Make sure it's safe for your skin and not too basic on the PH scale. Use under armpits, folds of skin, anywhere on your body moisture tends to accumulate. | ![]() |

| Watching what you eat will help you control body odor. Apparently, eating a lot of meat causes more bad smells than eating fruits and vegetables. Onions and garlic should be avoided as well. Coffee or any substance that contains caffeine will cause unnatural amounts of perspiration, too.. | ![]() |

| Certain fabrics help prevent body odor. Fabrics like cotton, wool, and silk, which breathe naturally, help to keep your body dry. Cotton, particularly, tends to absorb moisture pretty well, but make sure you do your laundry often-this includes bedding as well. | ![]() |

| Relaxation will inhibit excessive perspiration. Breathing techniques, yoga, hobbies: anything to get your mind off of work and other stressful situations will be better for your health and your smelly armpits. They will not, however, convince your landlord to replace the cheap paneling in your room with drywall--anything to distinguish your apt. from a trailer home. | ![]() |

Suggestions About Commerical StuffOf course, the most common means of preventing body odor and excessive perspiration are deodorants and antiperspirants, but sometimes these products can cause rashes and irritation in local areas of the skin. Often times scentless deodorants and antiperspirants will cause less irritation because they lack certain chemicals that can cause inflammation. There are other forms of treatments like anticholinergic drugs which inhibit your sweat glands by manipulating the levels of certain chemicals in your body that regulate those glands. Surgeries or a process called Iontophoresis are other possibilities as well. If you're not too serious or worried about body odor there are plenty of online vendors willing to sell you simple and effective means of body odor control.
