Skunk Repellent:

Though many retailers claim that skunk repellent is your ideal form of skunk control, don't be so quick to bite. Your local DNR representative might have something different to say about effective skunk removal.

How to Get Rid of Skunks

Natural & Organic Remedies:

predator urine will get rid of skunks

Predator urine is a trick used by some folks to get rid of skunks, and has been used for quite some time. The most common urines used are either from a wolf or from a fox.  Now, I'll warn you, most professionals will tell you that predator urine is a bunch of hogwash, because it takes the right kind of predator to scare a one away. And they will test the waters. They're smart. If the scent is there, and there's no predator in sight, they may just decide there's nothing to worry about and go along with their business. So don't depend on repellents to get rid of skunks.

I watched just as much Pepé Le Pew as any other wide-eyed tyke when I was younger. I imagine this womanizing cartoon skunk could explain my fascination with both French culture and women, but that's beside the point. To tell you the truth, there's almost nothing I fear more than getting sprayed by a skunk; the social ramifications are almost too catastrophic for my imagination to handle. Luckily Natasha has us covered on getting rid of skunk smell, but the job of how to get rid of the skunks rests solely on my keyboard. I'll spare you the details on the possible benefits of having them on your property—mostly because there are none;and get right to the matter of skunk removal.

There's no skunk problem (or any problem) a .22 caliber can't solve, but you've probably thought this one through enough to know you don't want skunk blood (or their carcasses) on your hands. Besides, if your aim is anything like mine, you're probably in greater danger of shooting a lawyer than getting sprayed by Pepe Le Pew.

If you don't know where the skunks are living (they have a feeding range of about 2 miles in diameter), but you find them in your yard, chances are they're feasting on something. Garbage cans should be leashed to a wall and covered with a lid that is not easy to get off, while compost heaps should be transferred to into a proper container. This should get rid of skunks unless they've found another food source. no food gets rid of skunks
If you're still finding skunks in your yard, chances are they're feeding on grubs and worms that reach the surface after it rains. There are such things as skunk repellents in granule form that you can spread around your yard where you think they might be hiding or gaining entrance. Whether this is the best way to get rid of skunks remains a hot topic for debate on many gardening forums. repellent gets rid of skunks
Persuading the skunk to find a different home is a good way to get rid of skunks. Do some searching and try to find out where exactly these skunks are holing up. If it's between April and September, there may be babies that can't get out of the hole on their own. If that's the case you'll have to wait until you know they're all out feeding. Otherwise, if you know they're gone, use a piece of fencing dug far enough into the earth to prevent them from burrowing their way back in. fencing gets rid of skunks

Live skunk traps are the best way to get rid of skunks. Havahart makes a good skunk trap. If you can't afford that much money, then your local Audubon society or university biology department may be able to fix you up with one of their skunk traps, Baits recommended: chicken entrails, fresh beetle larva, peanut butter on bread crust. Once it's trapped, carefully approach the trap with a large sheet in front of you, laying the sheet over the top of the trap. Then it's up to you to relocate your little friend.

Professional Skunk Removal

If you don't feel like you can tackle this subject on your own, then perhaps it's time to call in the pros. I know of an old couple that often times call the sheriffs when they want to get rid of some skunks, and the sheriffs around these here parts are more than happy to wave their shotguns around, hootin' and hollerin' and making fun with their boomsticks. If you don't think you want a bunch of trigger happy cops running around your yard, then it would be a good idea to call your local pest control agency to get an estimate for their services. Be prepared to answer a lot of questions, unless your local pest control service is the real friendly type and they're willing to come to your home and assess the situation for free.
