Tea Tree Oil and Halitosis |

What is Tea Tree Oil?Tea Tree Oil is a naturally occurring antiseptic oil produced from an Australian tree called the Melaleuca Alternafolia. It's natural anti-bacterial properties make it a good candidate for natural or organic solutions to common problems like acne, athlete's foot, and even halitosis. Tea Tree Oil for Halitosis:Because Halitosis is most often caused by gases released by bacteria, tea tree oil makes a good natural alternative to nasty chemical solutions. Using the oil as an antibacterial mouth wash is usually suggested because there's a better chance of you not swallowing so much of the tea tree oil, as compared to toothpastes and mints which are swallowed quite often. Tea Tree Oil Use:You don't want to ingest the tea tree oil. This doesn't mean it's bad to put it in your mouth, but like any other mouthwash, swallowing of the substance isn't recommended. Suggestions on the concentration of tea tree oil to water vary between 50/50 to 20/80, twenty percent tea tree oil to water. Generally speaking, the amount of tea tree oil used is up to the person who uses it. A couple of drops or a spoonful: it's up to you to decide how much tea tree oil is needed to kill the odor causing bacteria in your mouth. A practical note: try a small amount of tea tree oil at first, because some people are allergic to it. Put a little on your skin, or a small dab on your tongue, and wait several minutes to an hour. If your body doesn't react, it's probably safe to use a greater concentration. If your body does react, cease touching or using the oil and seek medical attention.
